I like things to be SIMPLE, yet extraordinary. This theme carries through my life. It is the main goal in much of what I do from my professional career as a salon owner, to the way I live my life through my creative endeavors. This fundamental view with an innovative twist embodies my personality and my vision for SIMPLE surroundings. I love finding new and “out of the ordinary” ways to alter everyday items and create interesting and useful pieces of art. This new art form has grown from a continued hobby of conventional scrapbooking and a sister who insisted I could make something wonderful even out of an old cigar box. From the first one I completed, more ideas flooded in, and thus……”Simply Altered” was established. Enjoy discovering the common items used in each original creation of mine.

Hello, I seen your story on WHO tonight and the laundry soap caught my attention… I have a new high efficency front load washing maching that specifies to ONLY use HE certified detergents. I was wondering if you would know if this would work alright in my machine or should I avoid this not to damage my machine? Thanks for your time!

Yes, it has been tried and tested and researched to be safe for front loading, as well as safe for septic systems!!! you will love it!!!!!! I have many blog readers with front loading machines that swear by it now. You may need to adjust the dispensing amount, but that pretty much needs to be done to each persons needs anyway, but definately low sudsing. Thanks for visiting and feel free to subscribe. I’m thrilled to find your site. I lived in Iowa most of my first 50+ years and moved to eastern Canada in 2000. I still consider Iowa home and will eventually be returning there.

Hi I wanted to pass on a money saving & green tip I use about water. We use a dehumidifier in the basement so I use the water for plants, no chlorine or salts & better for the plants (indoors & out) I store the water in old milk jugs which I cleaned with water I save from taking a shower. You can waste up to 2 gallons of water while waiting for it to become warm (even with the best shower saver) so I have a pitcher I put it into until it is warm. I also put in the end water from the faucet when I turn it off. This has cut my water bill by almost 100 dollars a year. I would be more if the rest of my family did it but oh well.

I came across your laundry detergent recipe at the Ankeny Hy-Vee this evening (7/12) They had a nice display at the front door. I’ve been working on getting our family more green and more simplified. We hope to move to the “country” and I want to buy bulk (less trips to the store and less packaging), buy “green” and buy local. I love homemade recipes for the home and I’m eager to try the detergent. And being Dutch, it feels great to save a buck! I will wait on pins and needles for your window cleaner recipe.

I have been making the laundry detergent for 2 years now, love it! Refuse to use anything else. I now buy 8-10 bars of the soap at 1 time. WalMart is carrying all the products now, too!
